Little Square Eyes! by J.R.Poulter 09

This is such a funny world!

I watch it every day.

I don’t think Mum’s aware how much

I’m learning grown up ways!

When Mum is busy vacuuming,

Washing up or sweeping,

I’m sitting in the playpen

Not curled up sound asleeping.

I wouldn’t miss a moment

Of action on TV!

It’s BANG, SPLASH, BAM

It’s ROAR, FLASH, WHAM!

It’s educating me!

Description: This wry poem outlines part of the media dilemma created by our constant inundation with a barrage of information and visual stimuli. The problem of how to sift and sort through it all and how to deal with the repercussions of allowing uncensored access to it by the very young and impressionable, is raised and thrown open for comment!
